Impostors

IMPOSTORS by Scott Westerfeld is about two girls who are twins. Rafi is the twin who will take the throne after her father passes away. She goes to all of the parties and she is the famous one. Frey is Rafi’s twin but no one knows she exists. Her father hides her from the public. She started training at a young age to learn how to fight and she was born to protect her sister at all costs. She is told at a young age that she must sacrifice herself to keep her sister safe if necessary. Her father makes a deal with another leader and he tells Frey she must go in place of Rafi on this mission to another city and become the perfect impostor. Frey will have to decide whose side she is on, who she should trust and who she is.

"This book was nothing like I expected. It had so many layers to it. I have read a lot of dystopian books in my life but this will definitely be on my favorites list for this year."

This is the fifth book in Scott Westerfeld’s Uglies series. I did not know this was a part of that series until I was halfway finished with it. You don’t need to read the other books in the series but I heard from others that it helps you understand the world more. But I was fine without reading his other books.

This book was nothing like I expected. It had so many layers to it. I have read a lot of dystopian books in my life but this will definitely be on my favorites list for this year. I got so invested in the story and the characters.

This is the first book I have ever read by Scott Westerfeld but after reading this novel and seeing with my own eyes how incredible his writing is I will be reading more by him.

Col was hands down my favorite character in the book. He is described as boring by some characters in the novel but he is not at all and we learn he is just misunderstood. He had so much depth and he was very witty. He is also so passionate about things and that made me so happy reading about. The things he was passionate about were seen as boring by people who did not know him which has a deeper meaning to not judge someone by the way they appear on the outside. The relationship Col and Frey have to form is definitely one of my favorites.

Frey was a good character as well. I loved how caring she was. She really loves her sister and would do anything to protect her. She also cares for Col and it is very obvious she would do anything for him as well. She was stubborn at times and I found myself becoming impatient with her but her stubbornness just added to her character.

If you like kick butt characters and a strong female protagonist, then this book is a must-read. This novel does not focus on romance but it was the perfect amount of it to keep the reader satisfied. Besides romance there is a lot of fighting and graphic scenes so do be mindful of that when opening up the book for the first time but if you like fighting then you should read this book. I did not think I would enjoy this novel as much as I actually did so I am very happy I made the decision to read it so I recommend it to everyone.
